After blowing a few more days in Hanoi and Halong Bay than we could afford, myself and Scotty decided to pay top dollar and get an all-in 19hr trip from Cat Ba to Hoi An. This included our first sleeper bus which at first was a gimic but soon turned out to be a bit of a sqeeze for the seats. Thankfully Scott got the really bad seat/bed and was truly wedged in the corner.
Hoi An is a quant little sea-side town about halfway down the coast of Vietnam. It is famous for its multitude of tailors but seeing as I would not be working for a long time I decided to avoid the shopping scene. I did ask whether they could make me a 'Man from Delmonte' suit to wear around the Tropics but I figured I might be stepping on Renners turf so I didn't buy. Some people were really going crazy and ended up getting stung for a serious postage bill. Scotty had a dress made but just wore it once and threw it out.
Apart from the tailors, there are some old style restored villas, a covered bridge and a beach. We used the beach alot and looked at the houses and bridge from the outside once. Also, there were fierce preparations going on for the Miss Universe contest but we missed it by a few days unfortunately - good thing coz Scotty didn't bring his lease and muzzle with him. Apart from that we partook in the lively nightlife (meeting old friends and new ones) and generally stuck to our policy of 'taking it easy'.
But after some "serious culture" it was time to move onto Nha Trang
