Arrived in Chiang Khong after a day of travelling from Chiang Mai. Ran into a great gang from Limerick who were also staying in my guesthouse and went on the piss with them. Went to the local bar, appropriately named the Tee Pee bar which was run by a made Thai rocker. He could bang out the tunes on his guitar but couldn't really pronounce the lyrics too well so we all helped by singing along.
Next day we cross the Mekong into Laos (Houay Xai) and completed the rather straghtforward border control process in 30 mins. Easy peasy!
