Hi All,

First off, welcome to my new travel-specific blog.  Thank you all very much for visiting.  While I am on this trip I am going to be almost completely disconnected from my life in the USA.  This is going to be my only connection to all'y'all while I am gone.  I hope that you will find reading about my trip and following my progress at least vaguely interesting and if you feel like commenting, PLEASE FEEL FREE!  From previous experience I know that hearing from friends and family back home makes a world of difference in keeping my spirits up on a long, exhausting trip like I am going to attempt.

 I am expecting that, from the date I leave Chicago to the date I come back, this trip will take between 9 and 12 months.  Of course, this plan will almost certainly be completely changed so many times that the actual route that unfolds on this blog will bear little resemblance to what I've planned.

So stay tuned, right now I'm just getting ready for the trip, however things will really kick off in early September.
