On the first day of 2013 we went to a famous butterfly sanctuary in Michoacán called El Rosario. This is where Monarch butterflies spend the winter months after flying all the way down from Canada and the U.S. There are literally millions (if not billions, according to Charlotte!) of butterflies that return to the same spot year after year. It's a beautiful site. Here are a couple pictures but we were unlucky because the day we went wasn't warm enough so the butterflies hung to the trees in huge clusters. We had to hike about 45mins after a long drive up. The site is at 3,000 meters!
