The last few days have been eventful, not for the amount of things we have done but for the pleasure of those things.
On Friday went to meet the last roving Sheppard of Austria with Hans and Burgi. On Thursday night we never bothered to set an alarm, thinking we would easily wake up with enough time to meet Hans at twelve. Well...I woke up, lay there for a moment, though about what we had planned for the day then said to Felix, "What's the time?" Felix rolled over and looked on his phone."Eleven thirty," a long sleepy pause then "you could call your family on Skype, it's a good time there.""Aren't we meeting Hans at twelve?" Felix made no startled sound but jumped out of bed like lightening.
We managed to arrive at out meeting place only thirteen minutes late by Felix's phone, twenty by the clock in Flo's car but we beat Hans and Burgi anyway so they didn't know we were late.  I think maybe they knew we would be running on 'Cameron time,' which according to Andrea is very similar to 'Flo time,' that sadly cannot always be overridden by 'Floss time.'

After driving for about forty minutes and when we came to the sheep I let out a gasp in surprise. There were so many sheep and brown! They were so lovely and friendly. There were many young lambs running around and playing, they are so cute when they pigroot and buck and go galloping off in a big pack in no particular direction. We saw one lamb a few minutes after it was born and trying to take its first steps, then we saw one being born. It wasn't very cute at all; it was quite frightening really, as if I wasn't scared enough of childbirth already. It was very cute though after the mother had cleaned it and it was a little more conscious.
It was funny when we met the sheppard, he was nothing like I expected. He had a mobile he was always talking on and wasn't the soft, old fashioned looking man I expected, I can't really explain how he was, he just was nothing like I had imagined.

It was really impressive the way the two dogs worked with the sheep. All they needed was a small call or signal and they would be off, rounding the sheep into a cluster when they got to spread out or moving them off the road when a car was coming.

This was a great lesson in my 'School of Dog Appreciation for Felix'.

Another happy day with animals.

Maria on

Eddie had already read this one, so I didn't read it aloud to him. Loved this one, especially the last sentence. Hilarious that 'Flo time' is like 'Cameron time'! And even more funny that you beat Hans and Burgi even though you were all running late! And the photos of the birth are amazing.
