After we had finished and were in the kitchen eating a very late lunch of Schnitzel Daniel’s Oma brought round – left over from another delicious dinner with all Daniel’s family at Oma’s the night before, we were looking out the window and quite a few kids came over and were having a look in and around the igloo
After dinner we went bowling. It was quite a drive to Kempten, which by the way, is supposed to be one of the oldest towns in Germany and well worth it for the good evening. We went with Daniel, his father Horst and brother Manuel, Tanja, Alex and two other friends Domi and Jakob. It was a very relaxed and casual fun night. My first game was a disaster, so many gutter balls, but my second game was awesome, something very strange happened. I only didn’t win by a few points right at the end. I was bowling right down the middle and hitting spares, Jakob summed my game up pretty well with "What the hell is wrong with you?"
When bowling was finished Felix, Alex, Domi and I went to an Irish pub. It was very nice to have a beer and some late dinner with those two.
On Saturday night we slept in the smaller igloo, the one we built first. It was so cosy. There was a poker night at Daniel's on Saturday night so after poker a few friends came and drank some Jägermeister in the igloo with us before they went home, it was the funniest thing, five adults crawling into a tiny little igloo and sitting in there on top of each other passing around a glass of Jägermeister, by candle-light
So after the Jägermeister Felix and I dragged our stuff in and set up beds. We got to properly test our new double bivvy bag and mats in snow and I can happily report they were both wonderful for warmth, next comes the test in the rain. It might be real then, not just a test. We bickered quite a lot getting into bed. We watched a movie before we went to sleep, it was very, very fun and novel to be watching a movie and sleeping in an igloo. The novelty wore off when I couldn’t stretch out and my legs hurt all night and there was a massive lump of ice under my back so could only lay in one position. It would have been very nice to lay in there in the morning but I really needed to go to the toilet and once your up and dressed to out into the cold it’s not worth getting back into bed. All in all though it was really, really great fun.
