La Paz (again!)

Arriving back into La Paz was a bit of a shock, the cold and the altitude was definitely going to take some getting used to again. After getting a cab from the airport with another random couple also staying at Wild Rover, we arrived to find our reservation had been wiped off the system (even though we called to confirm that morning) and there were only 2 dorm beds in seperate rooms. Felicity immediately kicked off and 15 minutes later we were together in a 6 bed dorm for the night. After dropping off our bags we made our way straight over to ´Oliver´s` bar where we had planned to meet Jonathon and Claire ( a couple we had met back in New Zealand and again in Buenos Aires). We arrived a little early so we could have some decent food, bangers n mash for Flis and Steak n Ale pie for Henry. It was great ctaching up on each others travels over the evening and Claire and Jonathon had brought along two other couples as well so it was great to meet some new people as well. Hnery was feeling a little tired however and after a couple of drinks we called it a night and made our way back to the hostel.
An early start the next morning as Flis wanted to try and get an online application done for a job in HR at British Airways. Unfortunatly this ended up taking most of the day which was the day we had put aside to do a bit of shopping for the few souvenirs we were planning to take back home. Henry ended up updating the blog and uploading all the photos making good use of the time whilst Flis stressed out over the application which was decidedly harder to do without any documentation from home and a fairly slow internet connection. Finally after a long and somewhat boring day we escaped the internet cafe and made for the bar back at the hostel. A quick beer each and then we went back into town to the cinema to go and see ´Indiana Jones` as another treat for Henry´s birthday. The cinema was enormous and it´s always interesting to see different cultures reactions in a cinema. Bolivians certainly seemed to enjoy laughing out loud and enjoying lots of food and drinks thorughout the movie. Then it was back to the hostel bar to make the most of the happy hour on Vodka Sunrise´s ( a cheaper alternative to Tequila) and after feeling thoroughly sick from the amount of grenadine in each cocktail we flopped into bed.
The following morning we checked out of Wild Rover and decided to have our last night in La Paz in our own room as we found that it was just as cheap if we got a room at the HI hostel a couple of roads down. The room wasn´t particularly pretty but it was cheap and came with an ensuite which made a pleasant change. The last day in La Paz was spent doing all the shopping we had planned for the day before and even though it was Sunday and a lot of shops are closed, we were remarkably successful. After a tiring morning we grabbed some lunch in the Israeli restaurant we had been to before which was just as good as the first time and then it was back to more shopping. Finally we made it back to the HI hostel after getting our bags from Wild Rover and whilst Henry had a nap Flis went back into town to find out about buses to Copacabana the following morning (and to buy a scarf she had been eyeing up as well!). Our last night in La Paz was lovely, we ate at a restaurant called ´Sol y Luna` and although it was a little more costly by Bolivian standards the food was awesome. We bumbed into Jonathon and Claire again which was nice to say goodbye incase we dont get to catch up again in Peru before we fly back and then we called it a night.
An early start and after a quick trip to ´Gravity` to pick up the cd of pictures from our ride down the most dangerous road, we grabbed a taxi to the general cemetary just outside the centre of La Paz where the buses to Copacbana leave from. We jumped straight onto a bus which left 10minutes after we arrived and cost only 15 bolivianos each (just over $2) for a 4hour journey. The journey was beautiful, travelling for most of it alongside Lake Titicaca where the sun was shining and colour of the lake was incredible and we arrived mid afternoon into the small town of Copacabana.
