Having left Nelson fairly early and with Henry in a particularly foul mood from the incident with the beer, we travelled through the Hope Saddle and across the picturesque Buller Gorge to the 'Wild West Coast'. We travelled through some amazing scenery; every bend or corner in the road was the start of something new and unbelievable to gaze out at. The West Coast is famous for its warm welcome and after stopping off for our morning cup of coffee we drove through one of the many National Parks in the region - the Paparoa National Park.
After a couple of scenic stop-off's and a lunch stop we then made our way down to visit the famous Punakaiki Pancake Rocks which are a pretty amazing sight, especially when the sea is in full swing and gushing through the blow holes. The weather had got considerably better from when we had first arrived in New Zealand. We then made the last leg of the journey for the day and we arrived into Greymouth.
Greymouth itself lacked everything the rest of New Zealand had to offer, however the people of Greymouth were obviously aware of this and had made up for it with one of the coolest hostels we stayed in (Noah's Ark) as well as the Monteith's Brewery. The hostel was themed (unsurprisingly with animals from Noah's Ark) and we stayed in the Leopard room. The walls had leopards painted on them, the curtains were leopard print and so were the bed sheets. Novelty indeed! As for our evening's entertainment, we managed to get onto the evening tour of the (very kiwi) Monteiths Brewery including an all you can eat BBQ. The brewery itself wasn't the most interesting and we were herded around like goats but the tasting session after, more than made up for it! We then finished our night down in the Railway Pub where we got a free pint of our fav Monty's beer and a sausage BBQ.
