Last night was cool - we had a really nice dinner, took a stroll in the rain, and watched people dancing in the park.
Rob asked me to dance, but I was too self-conscious and said no.
Sheesh.
Why!?!?!?! I'm such an idiot.
I REALLY need to be more spontaneous.
The bathrooms here are really quite nasty, and our toilet doesn't flush (!!!!).
The light in our bathroom doesn't work (supposed to be motion-activated, yeah rite), so i've gotta brush my teeth / wash face by the light of my torch.
Ankle's quite ok when it's warm.
I suspect the muscle strain came about because it's too cold.
I used my first ever "Salonpas" today, and stuck it on my foot.
Hopefully it helps as the day goes by.
Yesterday Shauna and I had headaches, Rob had a slight fever, while Nimrod... well, he was smoking too much to even notice the altitude i think. LOL
Today we're gonna ascend another 1000m.
The tiny town we're heading to tonight sits at 4,400m (that's double the elevation of Genting Highlands).
I really really really hope I'll be ok.
Been drinking lots of water, breathing deeply and trying not to overexert myself.
But you know... even climbing 1 flight of stairs leaves you winded and feeling like you did a marathon.
Heart pounding in your head.... it's scary.
In other news, just a while ago I cut my right index finger today while trying to slice bread for breakfast.
Stupidly, I used the wrong side of the blade on Shauna's (very sharp) Leatherman knife
So yah, it sprang back and *slice*
Not much damage done, and I only have a bandaid on my finger - not like some tournique was applied or anything.
But still.... small things like that remind me of how things can change rapidly.
Break an ankle or slice a nerve/ligament... and that's it.
Regarding the TAR (Tibet "Autonomous" Region), seems like Americans are banned big time.
So... i'll probably try to go w/o Shauna.
Hmm. by the time i've spent 2 wks with these people, i'm quite sure i'm gonna miss the company.
At least things are getting better now as we kinda warm up to each other.
Watching Simpson's together does help too :)))
Other thoughts:
Increasingly, i don't feel like getting back to Singapore by mid June
Would love to come back end June, sign my Letter of Appointment (with 25% pay raise, wooooo hooooooooo!!!) and then start work on 16 July.
Hmm. but how now?
Rob's heading to Mongolia and it sounds awesome.
But everything there is in USD, so.... *choke*
Let's see how it goes.
Even if i get clearance for the permit to Everest, i may not want to spend that much money anyway.
Well, that's all for now.
I'm quite sure I won't get internet tonight, but you never know.
Warcraft's REALLY big here, so maybe even the tiniest towns will have a connection.
Wish me luck.
Our real journey begins today....
