We woke this morning and took a walk around our block, popping in to check out the various hostels. We soon settled on the Hostal El Monarco, which was run by an old couple. The lady was really enthusiastic and emphasised repeatedly that her place is "muy tranquillo" (very peaceful). She probably could tell that we were one of those El Cafecito victims.
Having viewed the rooms, we were pleased and moved over after packing up at El Cafecito. BUT, not before spreading the word and bringing like 5 other travelers from El Cafecito to join us. They too, were fed-up with the noise and poor value.
The old lady seemed really pleased by her sudden influx of guests and we were happy too :)
It was then time for a stroll around town! Cuenca is clearly not a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site for nothing. There are numerous churches all over, as well as nice old buildings and open plazas. Clearly, the Spanish influence is very strong here.
We had fun walking around in the sunshine for the first time in weeks. Enjoy the pictures!
Cheers,
Felicia.
