Feeling somewhat jittery initially, I began to get excited about our hiking up the world's highest active volcano (5,800m) and then getting to bike all the way down its scree slopes.
Follow the pictures for the adventure (click on them and they enlarge)!
End of day: I braked too hard and my bike just skidded on the scree, resulting in me taking 2 big tumbles.
I now have 1 twisted thumb, about 6 large bruises, 3 tiny cuts on my right palm and assorted aches and pains. And 1 torn Straits Times windbreaker, 1 pair of ripped Colombia travel pants (sadness!!!!)
Somehow, I still feel extremely happy and am upbeat about managing to travel southwards tomorrow despite the "injuries". Although, as the night progresses, I am quite sure I'll feel increasingly beat up tomorrow :(
For the record, I'm glad we did this instead of the 'World's Most Dangerous Road' in Bolivia. I could have skidded off the damn cliff instead!
Cheers,
Felicia "One Thumb" Wong
