Some km before Darwin we finally see our first Boab trees (called “Flaschenbäume”, bottle trees, in German), which can also be found in Africa. Some of these big trunked trees were used in dark Australian history as an intermediate prison. For us Derby is the last bit of civilisation before going on the Gibb river road, a 700km stretch of dirt road.
