Flag of France  , Normandy,
Friday, July 3, 2009

Today we went out of the reservation and we went to rent a dirt buggy and a quad for one hour to drive along the dirt roads of Normandy what a scream. Everyone had a go and we all ended up covered with mud from head to toes. Laughs all around or laugh out loud is all the same. As we were planning to go and see the Pegasus Bridge we had to swing back by the hotel to shower and change our clothes. We drove all the way and had lunch at the very cafe, still standing and untouched to this very, yes, the first place liberated in France in 1944. So after a good lunch and few bought souvenirs from the cafe we went to the museum where the real bridge stands (the new one looks exactly the same). We did visit the museum and were amazed by the huge number of items and the quality of information on display there. We headed back for the hotel and as we drove down those little roads around the sites of the initial landing it was not hard to imagine a tank rolling down the road or a German battery behind hedgerows. I learned later that must of this coastal area is being preserved as a living museum
