Copacabana/ Lake Titicaca 12th May – 14th May

Our last stop in Bolivia is Copacabana on Lake Titicaca. No surprise to find out it is at 3800m and also that we catch up with Phil and Nomie again J. The lake is massive and looks like a sea as it flows away over the horizon. Our trip from La Paz to Copacabana takes us across a stretch of Titicaca by boat. Fair enough. Although the boat the bus goes on is like a giant tray and I am pleased not to be accompanying it. At Copacabana our hostel sent a minibus to meet us and collect us. I like this place already!

The main attraction here is Isla del Sol (the site of the Incan creation myth) where there are some Inca ruins and a walk across the ridge of the island. To get to and from Isla del Sol we took the world's slowest boat – this was boring. We then went the ruins, a bunch of rocks with no information – this too was boring. After all this high energy excitement we walked across the island back to the port on the south side – this was…excellent. A four hour walk with great scenery, even at 3800m with all the puffing, I loved it!

In the evening in Copacabana we saw a bunch of cholitas playing football in the local outfits in a hall cheered on by the rest of the town. And that is the final image we have of Bolivia.

Bolivia: It has been amazing! The highlight of South America so far. Next stop Peru.
