Flag of Spain  , Canary Islands,
Tuesday, April 24, 2012

We had no plans on visiting the Canary Islands, let alone really knowing where they were. Since the ship was taking us, we were up for it! First stop was Tenerife. With no expectations, ya can´t really go wrong.

We wanted to hike around Teide Mountain but it was too far. So we walked around Santa Cruz´s Plaza Espana and kept on walking to the Auditorio de Tenerife. We saw it from across a street and I was like, cool but do we need to walk up to it? Steve wanted to take a closer look and I´m so glad we did. What an awesome building. The structure is all white and mosaic, formed like some wild plant. The best site on the island. It borders the ocean and if you look down at the rocks, there are famous performers painted on individual rocks. I suppose they had all performed at the Auditorio at one time. There is also an old fort next to it and on the other side of the fort is a huge pool area.

Next stop was the bus station so that we could see a bit of Playa de la Cruz. This was another really touristy area with tons of shops and eateries. Walking as much as we do, we have to remind ourselves to take breaks. When we spotted a cafe selling chocolate churros, we couldn´t resist. We also walked over to two different black beaches but skipped the sun bathing. Black beaches are just not pretty.

We went back to the ship early and ran up to the buffet to have a late lunch. Then, we changed into our swimsuits and sat by the clean pool as we pulled away. Two more islands to go!
