Some of the guide books mentioned an area called Pemaquid Point. It's often bypassed by tourists (which Maine is full of) as it's off the main drag. We thought we'd give it a go and check out the lighthouse along Maine's rocky coast. Well as we pulled up, we noticed that they were charging a fee for the lighthouse and just next door was a place called Sea Gull Restaurant and Gift Shop. We could park there for free and pop our heads in the gift shop.

So glad we did because as we were walking around, we noticed the quaint restaurant connected to the shop, overlooking the ocean. Great view! They had whole lobsters cooked for $8. Steve and I were hesitant as we are not huge fans of lobster and had no idea how to crack it open. Lucky for us, the restaurant was closing within the hour and the lunch rush was over. Our waitress said she'd help open up the lobster so with that kind of deal, how could we refuse?! I'm not sure if it's because the lobster was so fresh or but the knuckles, claws and tail were delicious! We stayed away from the ribs and colorful gunk!!

After our treat, we walked out in the drizzle to take pictures of the rocky coast and lighthouse. Then we drove up to Ellsworth and sampled the Lobster Red Ale at a lovely Italian restaurant. Maine was my surprise state. Love it!
