Aways south of Palmerston North yesterday the skies cleared as I approached the coast. I stopped at Otaki Beach to walk around and just sit and watch the waves roll in. Kapiti Island was not far off shore and looked beautiful. I arrived at Mary's home in Paraparaumu by early evening. Her husband is away on business so it was just the two of us...plus Kayla and Elsie, their two Rotweillers, and Tanner, her daughter's dog. She made a great dinner -- even vegetarian -- and we had very good conversation. Since the weather was looking better she attempted to get me on the ferry to Kapiti Island today, but because they only had five people interested in going and need ten, the ferry didn't make the trip today. It's too bad because it's a nice sunny, albeit cold, morning. So instead I'll head down to Wellington. Mary had to leave early this morning for work so it's just me and the girls (who thankfully remembered me this morning...they are guard dogs!) There's another front blowing up from the south, and it's cold and snowy in the mountains on the south island - and in the mountains on the north island, including where I hiked the other day.
