Our plan this morning was to wake early and take off to Winton, plans are made to be broken so with the developments overnight we are laying low. Liam wakes late and looks much better, thankfully it looks like something he ate rather than a bug. Still to make sure all is settled we take it really easy and declare our day of rest. Emma and I pop in to town to do food shopping, on our way back we see a craft market in the park so we bundle everyone in and take a cruise back, sadly its in the throws of packing up when we return so we take a drive around town, Longreach is obviously quite a poor town big wide outback streets every third house seems to have a For Sale or For Lease sign in front, nothing like the country feel of Barcaldine just 100km down the road, this town feels unloved, it is a bigger town with a much larger shopping hub yet its outskirts seem deserted
Back at the van Claire braves a dip in the icy cold pool and Bill sets to changing a dodgy wheel on our luxurious Minespec, kids and I then pop over to the office to mention we had discovered 2 out of 5 ladies toilets have no loo paper, potential crisis, thinking I’d get a "thanks for that love" I get a very stern, “I find that hard to believe the toilets were cleaned this morning at 8:30”, red rag to a bull lady, I explain in no uncertain terms that in fact the toilets had not been cleaned since we had arrived on Wednesday and the main toilet block was so dirty we had started using the smaller block behind our van! Still no apology or a thank-you for bringing that to our attention, I even offered to take paper over, her reply simply I intend to go over myself, all this with other travellers checking in I might add. So let me put it in print here as I will on every review page I find DON’T STAY AT LONGREACH TOURIST PARK, stay in Barcaldine and travel in for the day
Now back to us, Liam is feeling much better so we brave the very exciting event of Chinese in the Aussie Outback, lucky we had booked as we were the only ones there, lovely people, lovely food, poor block nearly fell over when Bill left him a $10 tip he tried to give it back, Bill insisted he keep it and it’s ok. Maybe this bloke should go and run the caravan park?
The Sun sets on our last day in Longreach, we’re pleased we’ve been here and can tick it off the list, however I don’t think we’ll ever be back to stay, maybe just to pass through.
Mackay’s mini melodramas.
