Up bright and early, take one. Bill and I wake with a shock at 3.07am, it's on our way out of town in the morning we discover it was a car that had hit an embankment down the road, skid marks indicating quite an impact, might have been what we heard. Waking again at 7.30am we remember it’s actually 6.30am so figure make an early start, girls are already up and ready to go in the shower, is this the twilight zone? No all good, Liam still fast asleep. All packed up we leave by 8.15 on our way to the Gold Coast my turn to drive as it’s country, not insane inner Sydney traffic. Quick loo stop at a delightful rest bay with possibly the smelliest drop toilets we’ve encountered (even counting up the centre of Aus) and we’re off again with Bill at the helm, in need of a coffee hit we do a quick stop at Macca’s Grafton leaving Bill to fix the van mirrors which up until this point were helpful in only seeing the white line behind us, we then take off, it’s then we discover left mirror is now only useful for me as passenger to see the caravan tyres! Oh well one day we’ll get it right. It’s from now we hit some serious rain. I’m thankful Bill is driving as some drivers really do not know how to drive, and I get, to say the least, a little frustrated and with no bull bar best I navigate. Liam takes this ideal opportunity to ask Bill to "fix" his laptop! Ummm “NO I’m driving” geez Dad can’t you do 2 things at once??

Before we know it we cross the border into QLD it’s still pouring with lots of black clouds. The result of all the rain is a major traffic jam, we thought driving into Sydney was bad, I think the rain scares drivers up here. We navigate North up to Helensvale we’re not staying at the normal Treasure Island instead trying Gold Coast Holiday Park which is opposite Movie World, it’s just had a make-over so it will be interesting to see how it compares.

The rain clears up just as we arrive, we check-in and discover the site we’ve been given is pretty much in the centre median strip of the Freeway with some clever talking from Bill sees us change sites to one a little further from the road. Set-up done time for kids to find the “heated” pool while Bill and I sit back and chill (AKA can’o’clock)

Time for dinner and not wanting to drive we throw together an interesting marinade from the pantry of vegemite, soy sauce and a squeeze of orange, coat chicken strips and grill, served in a wrap with some rice, no master-chef but not bad at all (could be the cans)

Big day tomorrow-Wet and Wild so off to bed now.
