Where I stayed
There are quite a few vans here one even has a cat! Lots of people have dogs that travel with them but this is the first time I've seen a cat, it’s on a long lead attached to a tree and their dog is on a lead attached to the van, at one point a man walks past the cat and bends down to pat it, the dog goes absolutely mental barking it’s head off, he’s either over-protective or maybe just jealous he’s not getting attention?
Finally the kids wake up and we’re off to find the Big Galah shouldn’t be too hard, it is big right? We drive to town past the info centre past the lions park no Big Galah, then on the way out of town we see it standing tall and proud at the Gem Centre
We turn off at “Iron Knob” a run down almost derelict mining town, thankfully it wasn’t far out of our way as the saying “nothing to see here people” is very true.
A few drops of rain turn in to more rain as we continue towards Port Augusta we see a couple of fruit-cakes pedalling their hearts out so we wave to break their boredom. A few more km’s down the track we see in the distance flashing lights thinking it’s maybe an accident we see a police car driving towards us on our side of the road, CB alerts us to the fact there’s a MEGA WIDE load heading our way and the advance party is advising us to get off the road. We squeeze our big bum off to the side of the road to wait and up ahead we see not one but two Monster trucks hauling some big equipment we hear over the CB them deciding to stop as they have felt one of the trucks develop a wobble and they need to check the wheels. The police car that had gone ahead to pull traffic over pulls up next to us and we ask if we can go around while they’ve pulled over we also ask where they’re headed, he says he’s got them to the WA border then it’s up to WA police he’s not sure where their final destination is
We make it to Port Augusta and drive through we had seen the Waldata info centre last time and we really wanted to get to Adelaide at a reasonable hour. We stop in Port Pirie for lunch quite a pretty little town although it’s Sunday so a little more like a ghost town then back on the road with Billy boy driving us the last leg in to Adelaide.
We aren’t driving nearly as far day as the previous two days but for some reason it’s dragging, kids are niggling each other and it seems to be taking forever to get there. We hit the outskirts of Adelaide and hit major roadworks on South Road 40km zones..yay, give us the open road any day. We finally find where we’re staying in Marion, thankfully a lovely caravan park close to everything with the most amazing indoor games area and not one but two pools, an outdoor 40 mtr and an indoor heated one. Run and be free kids there is a bottle of Moscato that must be put in the recycling tonight and it’s still full!
