Where I stayed
April Fools…only joking Happy Birthday to Mac (Bill’s Mum Ann) though (not an April fool!)
Pack up & leave early to beat the rush of Perthites heading home after Easter, we’re off to the big smoke today Perth here we come.
Fuel at Hyden 163c/L thank goodness for that 4c docket Wave Rock gave us savings will be huge. We have a fairly uneventful drive across just one moron who decided to do a U-turn in front of the van travelling in front of us in a 110 zone then slowed right down so to avoid slamming into him the guy in front swerved to which the moron with trailer gave him the single finger wave! Charming….We travelled on to Perth through landscape similar to our Dandenong Ranges just not as dense bush and then we arrived in suburbia…aghhh yuck traffic lights all synchronised to turn red as soon as you approach them
We had been trying to contact the Big4 park in Fremantle, Woodman’s Point and had left a couple of messages to see if they had a site available the second time I rang the lady answered the ph with "what’s your name & number I’ll ring you back" when we turned up at the park we were confronted by a sour faced, clearly should be working in a call centre job, lady who when I mentioned we had left a message snapped she had been very busy with 100 people checking out and we were there now so what was the problem?...oh lady you are on dangerous ground even Bill took a step back. So in my own calm gentle way I suggested that we had simply wanted to ask what the cost would be before we arrived as some caravan parks charged up to $12 extra per child on top of the site fee, but we had found some parks to be generous & only charge us for 2 children as what extra costs would a child attract? Obviously she felt the need to push a few buttons so her reply was “well those parks are probably just privately run parks we answer to our shareholders and can’t discount it wouldn’t be fair on the families with one child there are lots of activities for children and the $10 extra per child covered all those extras” now even the kids had stepped back wondering if this was the point they see their Mum leap the counter! No I kept my cool, we completed check-in having to pay yet another 2% because dared choose to pay by Visa Debit card it was then I let the sarcasm loose I decided to ask where we could find the “extra” activities and what time was the kids club? By now the man working next to her was rolling his eyes and trying to be invisible, the woman stated kids club had run over Easter & what kids activities did I mean, they had a pool & playground wasn’t that enough? Ok enough we had to leave obviously customer service was not part of her vocabulary & wish the Karma fairy on her
Moving on we did quick set-up kids went to the pool, by themselves, I told them to say if anyone from the park asked that Mum was back at the van writing up her report for caravan reviews!!
We met up with Matt, a work colleague if Bill’s from Lenovo days, his wife Tash & their 3 boys for BBQ dinner at their house, lovely to spend a night with other adults at a real house not on wheels. Thank-you for the lovely night, Matt & Tash.
