Up bright & early (because we went to bed just after afternoon tea!!) the most glorious setting, nestled amongst the Range it was actually a cold night, nice change after the heat we've had over the past few days.

Short drive today only about 250km heading to Kalgoorlie, we were planning on turning left when we hit Norseman but now decided to head North so "Kal" watch out here we come!

Only the one stop on the way for fuel at Norseman-peak hour everyone from Perth is heading East and they all drive commodores….much prefer the middle of nowhere.

We arrive in Kalgoorlie/Boulder about 2pm, find a caravan park & head out to explore. It’s Good Friday we only find two shops open, the Boulder Fish & Chip shop with $8 Gummy Shark (compulsory as it is a Good Friday Tradition) so we pre-book our dinner & allocate at 5:50pm time slot for pick-up (what the?) the other is the IGA which has bananas at $8:99 a kilo (sticking with the lolly bananas may be the way to go.) Next it’s off to the big smoke of town…very similar to Mt Isa in feel & Ballarat in size, off to Mt Charlotte look-out we head, this is the main water tank holding the towns’ water supply (not so much a look-out) which comes from Perth, then we head on to the “Super Pit” aka KCGM Pit a Mammoth working open cut mine absolutely breath-taking. 500mtrs deep and a couple of km’s wide.

Upon reading some interesting facts on Kalgoorlie we have discovered there were at one time 25 brothels operating, now only one which welcomes tours from visitors to learn about the colourful part of Kalgoorlie history….Think we might skip taking the kids on that one!

Back to the van to prepare for a big day tomorrow as it will be the only day the shops are open until next Tuesday….country bumpkins gotta love it!

Until the Morrow Mad Mackays
