Where I stayed
Fraser Range Station
Our only fuel stop for the day is at Caiguna roadhouse just before we hit Australia’s Longest Straight Road. 145km of dead straight roadway, nice road wide enough you can sit to the side when a road-train passes so the vacuum of air doesn’t start the death wobbles & the van takes on a life of its own.
We make pretty good time with far less wind today just a bit of headwind (be good when we come home & it’s a tailwind) we stop mid-afternoon to spend the night at Fraser Range Station an oasis on the Nullarbor, set on a private property. The owners have made about 20 or so power sites, amenities block camp kitchen all set around a big fire pit which they light a fire in every-night for a communal get-together they also have refurbished the Shears quarters into quaint B&B style units, a really nice safe place to spend the night our favourite place so far!
Now we are on true W.A we find ourselves under a pitch black sky, no internet/phone reception, everyone fed & watered (moscato’d), cleaned up, communal fire chat and toasting marshmallows over and we’re all ready for bed…..it’s only 7:30pm (10:30 Melb time)…….OMG we’re turning into Grey Nomads.
