Off at 7.30ish this morning on our way to Bundaberg. Arrive around 9.45 and head for Info centre (we haven't found any signs to Rum Distillery only reason we’re here) now this centre has one parking space for caravans but there is a truck & rubbish skip in it! We park illegally (becoming a habit) and walk the mile to the info centre. Now I don’t know if I have a tattoo on my forehead but I always cop the rude ones. All I asked was what tour they had at the distillery & was told the full tour was $25 adult (kids standing next to us) so I ask "are children free?" to the reply “of course not, you have children? You would need a family ticket! Hmmm. I am then told the interactive tour is very good for children so I ask how much that is she tells me $??(can’t remember)an Adult so again “are children free? No you would need a family ticket!! Oh my, I’m in the twilight zone. As we were leaving I mention it’s quite hard to park because of the truck & skip, its only there for another week was the reply!! Maybe we should pop back then?? CUSTOMER SERVICE. It’s a shame people like this are at the forefront for visitors it certainly doesn’t encourage you to stay & spend your hard earned cash!

Anyway I digress back to the rum! We find The Rum Distillery (should have just wound down the window in hindsight) and head to the shop couple of “tastings” couple of purchases and we’re on our way. The rain has again found us (we keep trying to out-run it) and we head to Bundaberg Barrel where they make Ginger Beer & other soft drinks. We go through the inter-active museum tour here (thought this one was better for the kids, we’d already been on the rum tour last visit) & thought it was fantastic. And really nice staff, yay!

Off we head on our merry way to The Sunshine Coast (me driving) with no real idea where we will stay, we’ll just wing it!

Then we hit the rain, boy did it rain. It poured which meant the traffic slowed right down, the funniest part was on the CB radio we heard a running commentary from two quite verbal truckies which were having a few issues with a motor-home going particularly slowly holding up a lot of traffic! It’s quite interesting to hear what truckies think of driving skills of drivers on the road certainly made me more aware!

We arrive at Coolum Beach just on 5pm & after a few hasty ph calls to some local caravan parks we decide to head to the “Family Parks caravan park in Mudjimba”, a decision we would live to regret!!

Brian Robinson on

Sadly there are some people in the tourist industry who dont belong they want the tourist dollars but not the tourist smile they are getting fewer and fewer, hope the weather improves. Me i will vote for the 1st party that can promise me global warming. I quite like the idea of Palm trees in Ferntree gully and hey I'll put up with showering Once a week just give me some warmth!!
