Heading for Atherton today we make our way towards Mt Garnet & take it fairly easy as we had been told this was a bad area for road-train cowboys! Not wrong there. We get to an intersection & find that we have right of way & traffic coming from our right is on a give-way sign. Only problem is a road-train coming barrelling down on us talking on his CB obviously not realising we are listening to every word. He proceeds to tell his companion truck behind him how bloody caravans on the bloody roads & how we shouldn't bloody wave to them we should just get off the road (I have cleaned that up a bit for innocent ears!) Quite frightening as we clearly did nothing wrong & in fact we were travelling quite a bit quicker than him & soon lost sight of him behind us. Anyway our next adventure wasn’t far, we saw a police car coming towards us with lights on & he did a U-turn & proceeded to follow us. With no idea what the heck he wanted we pulled over (remembering this is a road-train highway & no places to pull over) he proceeded to book Bill for speeding!! 112km p/h. (we thought it was 110 zone) Hmmm loving QLD. NOT. Really missing the 130 speed limits of NT. Anyway after issuing Bill his speeding fine we continue on our way. We had some lunch at the Ravenshoe Wind Farm some 1000 meters above sea level. We then stoped briefly at Nerada Tea Plantation (it’s moved from its original site near Innisfail where we camped Mum & Dad!) Gorgeous countryside we have hit Tableland country & you would think we had been transported to countryside England.

Next stop "The Curtain Fig" (see photo) and then onto Gallo cheese and Chocolate factory, what a disappointment that turned out to be. Just a café with a lady behind a glass wall making chocolate (no samples) & a cheese factory behind a glass wall empty as it was not a production day! We leave quite disheartened really looking forward to that chocolate! We make it to Atherton by 3ish & book into the Big 4 park pleasantly surprised by a lovely welcome (after our experience at Howard Springs Big 4 its been hard to give them our custom again.) We are staying here for 2 nights so will keep you posted if Big 4 is back in the good books!

never been to Atherton. Photos spectacular. The fig trees amazing. do they all grow like that? We have been enjoying a spectacular melbourne winter whilst you have been away. Freezing cold and exciting howling winds and rain today. I can tell that you are really missing that! There has been a great start to the snow season with Queen's b'day weekend bringing lots of dumps for the snow bunnies. Are you sure you want to come back to it? Hope the QLD sunshine is keeping you all warm. it wouldn't be so humid where you are now. Keep having fun. Bugger about the speeding fine Bill. Oh well welcome to QLD! Best wishes.
