Off to the pool Mellow Mackay Mob……
Today we leave Mataranka and head North. We really weren't sure where would end up as we had heard rain was causing a few road closures through Kakadu (originally our next stop). Our first fuel stop was Katherine what an eye opener. 10am in the morning and men staggering around like it was 3am Sunday morning?! It was still my turn to drive so it was no surprise it started raining just as we started off again! It didn’t rain for too long so settled in for the drive to be greeted with 2 "Locals" on road hitchhiking not just standing on the side these guys were standing one in the middle & one just on the road. Now I don’t know about you but I had 2 tonne of van behind me & Bill sitting next to me and my kids in the back I wasn’t stopping even if they jumped in front of me!! So I kept my line on the road and kept going. It was quite frightening I have to say but on explaining it to some fellow travelers when we stopped what had happened they confirmed what we thought you just keep going NEVER EVER stop!!! The rest of our drive was incident free (I’m glad to say) & some quick decisions on the way saw us “landing” in a place called Batchelor which is just at the entrance to Litchfield National Park. Just beautiful and no more rain (although very humid) off exploring tomorrow can’t wait!
