Where I stayed
Top Tourist Park Clare
. Bill had a quick tour and the kids & I chilled in the car (I have done my fair share of car museums over the years & it gave kids a chance to re-pack the back seat.) We had just settled in to watch a DVD when Bill came out. Half an hour in a car Museum! Was he ill did they close early? That is going to the guiness book of records let me tell you! Anyway I took the opportunity whilst I was already sitting in it of claiming the drivers seat (possession is 9 tenths of the law) & off we went on our way to Clare. We had thought we might try to push through a bit further but by 4.30 the sun was dropping way to quick (not to mention the natives getting restless in the cheap seats) so we pulled into the one & only caravan park in Clare. Quick dinner, diaries done medicinal glass of bubbly and time for bed!! Plan for tomorrow is now push a bit further than Port Augusta maybe Woomera! Not sure about internet further North but will post when possible… Mayhem with the Mackay Mob.
Claire says Hi to everyone in 4/5P and thank-you for the emails….
Day two started a lot slower than Day 1. Kids slept in & after relaxed breakfast we headed off to Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills. It was then I realised we were half an hour ahead because we hadn't changed our clocks! (South Australia is half an hour behind Victoria) Hahndorf is a beautiful little "German" town clearly not designed for caravans!!! We finally found somewhere to park the van and went for a walk through the Main Street. Lots of little gift shops with lots of souvenirs. It was very quiet with only a few tourists so very relaxed. We then headed off to Woodside where we visited the Cheese factory and a Chocolate factory (hmmm Chocolate!!!). The Giant Rocking Horse in Gumeracha was our next stop where Emma, Claire & Liam climbed almost to the top whilst I stayed at the bottom taking photos. Liam announced very loudly from the first landing “this is phenomenal” summed up nicely I would say! We then went through the very extensive wooden-toy shop and then went for a nice walk through the Fauna Park (which was FREE!) Next stop Car Museum in Birdwood
