After a long, but fairly easy trip, we finally arrived in Istanbul this afternoon at about 2:30pm. The entry visa was no problem, took about 2 minutes, and cost $20 US a piece. Our hotel transfer fellow was waiting for us, and actually proved to be a fairly good tour guide for the drive in from the airport.
The hotel is actually quite lovely, clean, friendly, and seems to be very well located. After unpacking, we set off for our traditional first day walk, and were at the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia in no less than 15 minutes. The photo of Asher was taken just as dusk was settling.
First thoughts: The place is exotic and lively, the sites seem to be enthralling. The site of the Sea of Marmaris from vantage points so close our hotel is fantastic. Other thoughts: Expensive, no doubt about that.
Asher, Gracey and Hayley are very excited. I think it's going to be a great start to a great trip

Unfortunately, it started raining, so we ended up in a small restaurant close to the Topkapi palace. For about $60 US, we ended up with a failry extravagant mixed grill and fantastic flat bread. Patty and I ate well, but I think the kids were starting to get a little fried by then. Because of the rain, we ended up getting a tram ride back to the hotel, and all somewhat collapsed upon our return. Patty and I are now in the process of drinking a lovely cup of hot tea, and life is good.First thoughts: The place is exotic and lively, the sites seem to be enthralling.
