Okay, today was a shit days hitching. It took me ages to get a lift from Mackay and eventually I got a lift as far as Sarina from a Kiwi women who drives a truck in a coal mine out west of here. She left me at a truck stop just before Sarina and I was waiting a long time here too. I was close to giving up, heading back to Mackay and getting a bus ticket when I guy in Landcruiser picked me up. He had seen me earlier that day and came back for me. He was a tradie working in the mines and from Rockhampton or Rockie as it is known locally. He told me many things about Rocky and he goes back home every weekend to see his girlfriend. Works during the week in Mackay. He dropped me off at downtown backpackers and bought me a beer. He also gave me $10 for some food and gave me copies of loads of cds (aussie artists that I had been after for a while; Xavier Rudd, John Butler Trio, Art Grundle etc.). He was very generous but it was a little weird considering he gave me a lift in the first place. However, he was interested in coming to Ireland sometime so I gave him my email and told him to get in touch if he makes it over. Rocky was a bit dead even for a Friday night. I got dinner in the Cri and bumped into the Swiss guys that gave me a lift to Airlie. I will travel with them tmrw down to 1770 and Angnus Waters...
