Hitched down to Bowen from Townsville. Got a bus out to the Bruce highway and was waiting a while until a truck driver picked me up. It was interesting to see what the road looks like from one of these big semi's. The guy was your classic Queensland truckie. We had to stop off to change containers and he brought me down as far as Ayr. In Ayr I got a lift from two Korean backpackers in a Falcon wagon (official backpacker car in Australia)down to Bowen. Sue had warned me that it is very difficult to find accommodation in Bowen and she was right. I tried all the backpackers and a few cheap hotels. I was lucky to get a dorm style room in the North Oz for the night. I met up with Helene and we went to the local disco bar called the Denisen. I wasn't much in the mood for dancing. It reminded me a bit of Athboy, hehe..

Bowen has some beautiful beaches. Sue took me to Horseshoe bay and it has the nicest beach I have seen on the west coast so far. Later I met up with Matt and the two Swiss guys and got a ride with them down to Airlie Beach.

I am going sailing on Monday around the Whitsunday Islands. Can't wait!
