Mt, Maunganui is nice, a real resort town built on a giant sandbar that was submerged for years. At the end of which is Mt. Maunganui and big ol volcano. I would definately not like to be living here if there was a sudden rise in sea level or a tsunami (I keep going to spell this word with a capital 'T' these days..). There is not that much to do here if you are not a beach bum. The young people here seem intent on parading up and down the main st. in there souped up cars. The most annoying thing is the ones that have fitted some sort of hydrolic hissing gadget that hisses like a lorry when changing gears. I was filled with an urge to casually approach one of these boy racers, politely ask him to pop his bonnet, rip out this bloody thing and hand it back to an utterly bemused teenager. I am sharing a room with the three Americans. They are sound but think everybody hates them because they are American. Today I have to try and keep out of the sun as much as possible. All the newspapers have warnings that there is particularly thin patch of ozone hovering over NZ for the day.
