Okay, this place smells of eggs and cooked ham but it is not as bad as I thought it would be. Rotorua is quite a big town and there are lots of activities to keep you interested here. On my first night here I went to a Maori cultural concert and a hangi in the Tamaki Maori Village. A hangi is a meal (all you can eat buffet - every backpackers favourite sentence) that is cooked in an earth oven. The food was great and it was great to see the haka up close. It gives you a good insight into the culture of the Maori people. I was so stuffed after the meal, hehe..
The next day I decided to go Zorbing. I have only seen this in NZ and Rotorua (it was invented here) seems to be the only place to do it. Basically you are put inside a big plastic ball and chucked down a hill. You have the option of a dry zorb or a wet one called the spin cycle. I decided to try both, and definitly the wet zorb is the best. You are harnessed into the dry zorb and it feels weird when the zorb bounces into the air occasionaly. All in all it is good fun, maybe a bit pricey and not very eXtreme. Got the T-shirt though, so there!
Oh yeah, seen lots of thermal pools and bubbling mud pools. They really stink. On the way to Taupo we stopped off to see Lady Knox geyser which erupts at exactly 10.15am everyday. Check out Leons blog on Rotorua, he explains how this occurs best!
