I arrived in Auckland late in the afternoon. Did not know what hostel to stay in so decided to stay in the one that the airport shuttle driver suggested.. Fat Camel. At first this place seemed alright, it is a large hostel just off Queen St. On each floor there is an apartment style lounge and kitchen with 4 dorms off it. It seemed reasonably quiet on my floor but the guy from New Caledonia advised me that it will chaos later. Guess what, he was right, there was a full scale party on in the living room and people kept coming into the room and turning the light on right up until 5.30am. I fucking hate these kind of places and was so tired the next day. It is fine if you are the one partying it up though. My first impression though limited is that certainly at night, Auckland feels a bit like downtown Sydney. The Sky Tower can be quite impressive when it is lit up and surrounded by a thin vale of cloud that illuminates to accentuate towers glow at night. I will explore Auckland further when I spend more than one night here..
