I loved the tranquil Kiakoura so much that I decided to stay an extra night. I met up with Ciaran & Elaine who have been in NZ for almost 10 months now (I think!). I went to college with Ciaran. Went swimming with dolphins which was great. The boat took us a long way out before we eventually found a pod of 200-300 dolphins. You are given a full wet suit including hood, gloves and foot jobbys. The shock of cold entering the water was not as bad as I thought it would be and the suits are very buoyant. Still, I don't really like snorkeling all that much and there was quite a swell where we were. It was great to see so many dolphins under the water but I could not wait to get out of the water and back on the boat. It is well worth it though.

I stayed in Dusky Lodge backpackers and it is a fantastic hostel. I was sitting in the hot tub drinking a couple of beers with snow capped mountains as a back drop and was thinking how good life is!

Next stop Nelson..
