Vancouver Island is quite large, perhaps similar in size to Britain. It looks small next to mainland Canada. The northern half of the island is quite rugged and remote. Most of its people live in the south. We travelled by ferry from Vancouver and drove down to Victoria. On our way a pod of Orcas treated us to a show. We can now tick killer whale off our bucket list. We spent 2 nights in a hostel near downtown. Victoria is a very pleasant city and is pretty chilled. There is a sort of English twee to it. We didn't do much except wander around and hang out.

Next we drove out to Tofino and the Pacific Rim national park. We camped one night on our way. We spotted a bear in the woods near where we were camping. This did not bode well for a good nights sleep! Tofino is nice but the weather was beginning to turn a bit crappy. We camped in Green Point campsite in the Pacific Rim NP. It was a bit scary here, the camp site was secluded in the woods and there weren't many tent campers about. We were shit scared about bears that night and didn't sleep that well. For our last night we headed east and stayed in a really chilled hostel in a small town called Cumberland. This is over on the east side of the island and close to our ferry to the mainland. The mountain biking is supposed to be great here but unfortunately there was way to much rain. All in all, we really liked it on "The Island". We spent 5 nights there in total. Also, there are no grizzly bears on the island. Grizzlies are way more aggressive than black bears. You definitely don't want to encounter one on the trails or whilst camping.
