Ziva Queen, 100,000
It was an early start from Ubud where we were picked up and brought to the ferry terminal. The ferry ride was relatively dull with some dreadful Indo pop music blaring in the main seating area. There was a rather irritating American girl whom we now refer to as zen girl on the ferry. Her body was her temple and she did lots of yoga and meditation during the ferry trip. We met an interesting Austrian couple whom we had dinner with when we got to Sengigi. They have been traveling for almost 9 months now and have been through India and Nepal. Lots of stories and tips were shared.
That evening we joined a trekking trip to Gunung Ringani. It cost 2.7m for both of us, 3 days, 2 nights
Ringani is Indonesia's 2nd highest volcano standing 3726m above sea level. Day 1, we trekked for 6 hrs to the crater rim where we set up camp for the night. We had one guide and 3 porters. The porters are amazing, they carry 40 kg up steep and very difficult terrain in flip flops and suck down cigarets like there is no tomorrow. Cigarets incidentally are very cheap, 12-15,000 for a pack of 20. Also 90% of Indonesians smoke. Day 2, we trekked down a very steep rocky path down to the crater lake. I forgot to mention how incredible Ringani's caldera is with a pristine crater lake and a smaller volcano rising out of the center. In the afternoon we chilled out at some hot springs and then made our way back to the opposite side for the crater rim for camp. The last 3 hours were grueling, it was so steep. At camp 2 we could see the summit in all it's glory. It also looks deceptively close. Day 3, we arose at 2.30am, had some tea and biscuits and set off for sunrise at the summit at 3am. The summit trek was a tough 3 hr trek up steep and lose ground. It was a battle just to keep going forward. We had our head torches but luckily we couldn't see the shear drops on one side
Ringani has been the highlight of our trip so far. It is tough but so worth it.
P.S. Images to follow as the connection is really slow.
