During our time here we have gathered provisions, bought some camping gear and sorted ourselves out with a rental car
. We will be driving a very new Ford Focus (only 51 km on the clock) around BC for the next 4 weeks. Our first stop is Vancouver Island for a few days then on over towards Whistler, 100 Mile House, Jasper, Banff, Nelson, Kelowna and back to Vancouver along the Fraser river.
So far, we are loving it here! It does feel cold after Indonesia and summer hasn't exactly arrived yet.
Oh and we managed to get mildly wasted at the Electric Owl club which didn't bode well for our first day driving a new car on the right hand side. We managed though. ; )
P.S. Our Canadian number is 604-3151962. We have to pay for incoming calls and SMS : (
Vancouver is a very vibrant city. There are loads of things going on and it feels very chilled out. The Vancouver International Jazz festival just started so there are loads of free concerts and stuff happening. Also, it is not strictly jazz, there is something for everyone. We even saw a kiwi street performer going by the name of Basketball Jones whom we have seen at the Newtown festival this year in Wellington. On our 2nd day here we rented bicycles and rode all around Stanley park. There are some great recreational areas in this city. Downtown is very walkable and it doesn't take long to get your bearings. There is a definite feeling that it is still 1990 here. Sort of an old skool vibe going on. Not everywhere but that was just our impression. Our take theory is that 90's fashion trends was heavily influenced by the grunge scene and that's just how people dress here. I realize this may be very controversial for anybody from Vancouver reading this.
