Our bus from Bajawa went via Ende and onwards to Maumere. On the way between Ende and Maumere there is a small village called Moni. This was to be our stop for the evening. On the bus we met a guy from Moni called Irwan. He spoke really well and at first we were skeptical as he started to mention his restaurant that he is building up and that his parents own an Inn. After some time we felt we could trust him and decided to stay at his parents home stay. This turned out to be great. His parents were very interesting and we were surrounded by animals and nature. The rooms were basic and may have had rats in the roof but even still we were prepared to overlook these minor points.

That evening we had a traditional meal at Irwan's "restaurant". He had also snared a slightly older German couple and we had dinner together. We exchanged traveller's tales and enjoyed a Bintang. The next day we went on the back of a motorbike up to see the 3 colored lakes of Kalimutu. The weather was sub-optimal and we didn't have the best visibility. In fact, the lakes were disappointing and it was the journey to get here and staying where we stayed that became the highlight of our Flores adventure.

Flores is truly beautiful but traveling is slow and journeys are long and winding. You need lots of time for Flores and slow things down. The people are lovely here and honest. Often we have been staying in places over 2000 meters and have had to wear our warm clothes.

This is as far east as we will travel in Indonesia. The rest of our trip will be a meandering trip back to Denpasar.

P.S. They love their soccer here and are totally digging the European championships. The games are not broadcast on national TV but they eagerly anticipate news in the local papers about each game.
