Where I stayed
Sadly this was the last night of our roadtrip. We really got to like our driver Zaw. He is a very skinny man who drinks tea and smokes. He is always smiling and was always the quickest on the draw to pay for a tea or coffee mix etc. I think it would be difficult to hire a car yourself and drive (the first time). You are only allowed a daily quota of petrol and you have to know where the right petrol stations are. Also, sometimes in the rainy season some of the roads become unpassable and it is important to be able to talk to locals to find out about road conditions ahead.
We learnt a smattering of Burmese along the way with the help of Zaw for proper pronounciation
Hello, How are you, I am fine.
How much?, Expensive!
No thank you
Please to meet you.
Chicken fried rice
Fried rice, no meat.
Also, we noticed on the menu in a place in Pyay that they had some strange items on there:
Fried Chicken with Dried Chicken
Barking Deer (no idea what this is).
We asked Zaw and we found out that it is not uncommon for people to eat cat and some times dog here!
