Arms and body still tired from the rock climbing in Rai Lai. Highly recommended by the way. We got off the ferry in Tonsai and had to run the usual gauntlet of tour operators and people offering you a bungalow and an assortment of boat men wondering where you want to go. "I don't know you yet, give me a break and some time to look around!". Okay, so now we are a little wiser, we try to get through such gauntlets find a cafe and then allow ourselves some time to decide where we will stay and what to do. I did some reconnaissance and explored around Tonsai for reasonable accommadation. It can be quiet expensive to stay here but in low season you have some choices. Didn't see anything I liked there so we found a boat man and took a long boat to Long Beach. We found really a high quality bungalow just off the beach in the Paradise resort for 500B. Looking across the beach you can see Phi Phi Ley and it is the same image you see in that scene in The Beach where they swim across to the paradise island. It is pretty far though, I wouldn't chance it.

Looking around Phi Phi you can see that much of it is still being reconstructed. Tonsai is tacky and after a few days I grew to dislike it. Long beach was nice but really dead this time of the year so most evenings we would either walk over to Tonsai or get a boat over. There is plenty of life their in the evening. We seen some impressive fireshows at the beach.

We decided to do some rock climbing here and did a half day with Spider Monkey. It was great and could see that we were improving from our time in Krabi. There was a really annoying girl there who was more concerned with how she looked and started crying when she couldn't do some of the climbs. On our last day here we hired a long boat man to take us over to see Maya bay where the beach from the movie is. It is beautiful there but maybe the beach itself is a little destroyed by tourists. We had sometime there and pretty soon the big tours shoved off and we had the beach almost to ourselves. Our long boat man was in no hurry and was quite content snoozing in his hammock.

Overall, I was a little disappointed with Ko Phi Phi, Tonsai is a bit too much and it was a little too quite on the other beaches. There are some really beautifull spots here though. Tommorrow we catch to ferry to Phuket.
