Malaysia is an easy country to travel, it is not too commercial and the people are not so hungry for your money
. KL is expensive but it is the capital. You will not see many dogs here and the cats mostly have their tails cut which is strange. The malay people are curious and friendly and there is a good level of english. Public transport is extremely cheap! Sometimes the bus drivers think they are at the race track. The drive on the left and the power sockets are the same as home, no adapter necessary. ATMs and money changers are wide spread. It is a Muslim country and alcohol is expensive and sometimes difficult to come by. Mainly, you will get it in the Chinese places. Although the country is Muslim, they seem to accept other people and their religions. It can be strange at first to see all the women dressed with the head scarf. However, it is rare to see to stricty "just eyes" head dress. The climate is hot and humid but sometimes it cools off. We had very little rain while we were here. High season begins in June. Still trying to get used to asian squat toilets. Still saving my dumps for western toilets when I can find them.
We stopped over here on our way to the Perhentians and now we spend one more night here before crossing the border to Thailand. Kota Bharu is an interesting town to spend a day in. It is known as the Islamic city and it is not touristy. As such you get a lot of attention from the locals. They have an excellent food market in market square and it is amazing to walk through it and see all the different fruit, vegetables. meat, fish etc they have there and it is super cheap! 500g Leecheys (1RM = about 20c).
