Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and the largest city in Southeast Asia. The city is predominantly of Muslim faith & there are many many mosques dotted around only a few hundred metres apart from each other. The city is a mixture of rich and poor with large skyscrapers, malls, slums, rubbish clogged gutters, all integrated as one city.
There were not many tourist attractions there except some monuments, and a family theme park…..and lots and lots of shopping malls. The streets were quite smelly & so many holes in the pavements… you had to watch out constantly!
We spent most of our time there walking around aimlessly looking for something to do
Food & Drink
Favourite Local Dish: Fried Duck with salad
New Tastes: Pork Buns & Chocolate buns from a food stall
International McDonalds Meal: Prosperity beef burger with peppercorn sauce, fries and a coke
Strangest Thing to Happen
An angry monkey tried to attack us in an ally way in the dark. Luckily it had a collar around its neck keeping it attached to a post. Phew!
Check what the airport tax is so we dont keep getting surprised every time we pass through check in. Luckily this time we had USD on us to pay it!
Jakarta – seen it – Wouldn't reccommend it
Tune Hotel, Pasar Baru - For $38 a night this hotel was not good at all. The drains stunk the room out, our room didn’t get cleaned for the whole time we were there, WIFI stopped working constantly, RUBBISH! Was glad to move on!
Airport Tax: $20
Water: $0.25 for 1.5l
Transport: About $15 per hour for a taxi
Average Daily Spend per person: $33
Transport there for both of us: Flight from Bali $160
Total Spend for both of us inc. Transport: $425
