I took the morning bus North to Chiang Mai, taking just over 11 hours to travel the 720kms. It was good to travel in Thailand during the day. Nearly all of my travel in the past has been on overnight busses, so this made a refreshing change, as we passed the local villagers working in the surrounding rice fields.
Chiang Mai is the stop off point for the hill tribes, and in a few days i will be flying into Mae Hong Son, where the Karen long neck hill tribes live. (along the border of Myanmar)
Flights have recently risen from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son, and feel its better than catching the bus for the bumpy 10 hour ride. -The 20 minute flight with Thai airlines costs $39 return!!! (before the increase flights used to cost 820 Baht return- $20!)
I spent 2 full days wandering around the old City of Chaing Mai, visiting numerious Wats and getting photos of yet more monks.
