We left Pueblo and the Rockies behind us and set our eyes on a flat 115 miles due East. Lunch and a welcome refill of drinks was planned for a modest 55 miles into the day, given that temperatures were in the mid-90s. After, 80 miles with no food and just two small water bottles each, the cyclists began to feel just a little miffed, so decided to take to the shade and seek out the nearest water source. As Galvin returned with bottles full of brown water, in rolled the car and lunch was consumed. The final 35 miles were supposed to be a doddle on the flats. That was the case, at least until the stinging dust clouds and wind found us; we discovered why these plains are also known as the Dust Bowl! Having battled through these obstacles we arrived at our motel in Eads pleased with our maiden centuries.
