This travelogue will feature some stories and pictures from
California made on my trip in 2005, but will also include other trips
to California.  In 6 months you can view my summer 2007 roadtrip
in which I will explore California's National Parks at great lengths.

Golden Gate Bridge National Recreation Area
It was funny because I was so excited to drive over the bridge and I was
in complete wonderment all the way across that I missed the turnoff to
stop for some pictures. Then I made a wrong turn and the next thing I
knew I was directed back across the brdige and there is no turn around
on the bridge so I went through the toll, turned around and then headed
back across the bridge for the 3rd time in less than 5 minutes!

On the trip in 2005 Diana and I drove out to Point Reyes
National Seashore. We took a walk on a hill above the beach and then
saw a lighthouse.

Diana, my mom, sister and I took a boat to Alcatraz Island. We took
a great tour of the island and prison facility. California had
purchased Alcatraz from Mexico in 1847. In 1854 the Alcatraz lighthouse
became the 1st one on the Pacific Coast. In 1861, the 1st civilian
prisoners arrived

Later in the day Diana and I took a walk along the Presidio which is
where a Spanish garrison arrived in 1776. We also viewed Fort Point
National Historic Site which was a civil war fort.

On another day we took a drive to Napa Valley. The drive was
breathtaking with endless fallen red, yellow, orange leaves and endless
fields of grapes to be harvested for wine. We stopped at numerous
wineries for taste testing.
