In the late afternoon I drove east a couple of hours and spent the night in Prineville, Oregon.
Today I was headed to a natural hot spring that someone in Washington had recommended. However, as I got closer, two nearby visitor centers had no idea how to get there and were shocked that someone from south Florida had ever even heard of it! There wasn't even a sign for the hot spring from the turnoff from the highway. But I tirned off on Forest Road 19 between mileposts 45 and 46 and drove past the Cougar Resevoir. Inside there someone pointed me toward a 1/4 mile hike to it. There was a small cave that housed the natural hot spring. It poured into a small natural pool that flowed down into more than five other lower pools. The top pool was over 115 degrees and as the water flowed down to each lower pool it cooled off a little more each time. I relaxed in the hot springs for a few hours and talked with a bunch of the naked hippies who knew this area all too well!
