Bram and I were planning on using today to catch up on our sleep. However, at 7:50 someone from the hotel pounded on our door to tell us about breakfast. The worst news was that checkout was at 9AM. Who has ever heard of such an early checkout? I raced down to breakfast to find the best one served on the trip that actually included eggs, potatoes and pancakes.
At 9 we left the hostal and left all of our luggage in their storage. We spend the morning wandering from store to store and through a small market area. Of course we bought some things again! At 11 we just relaxed on park benches in the town square. At noon we went for massages because we couldn´t believe how cheap they were; besides we're on vacation.
After the massage we sat down for a leisurely lunch and played 500 rummy for an hour. Finally we made our wat to the train station. The four hour train ride left Aguas Caliente at 3:30PM. When we arrived back to Cusco we were transfered to the same hotel we had stayed at before. By now it was 8:20 and we wnted to find some dinner. We were doing just fine walking and following the map until we decided to follow a landmark we saw way in the distance. So we walked and walked and walked and walked until we reached the church that we thought was the main one on the main plaza only to discover it was a church we had no yet seen in Cusco. When we asked for directions someone laughed because our curren location was not even on my map anymore. She pointed us in the right direction and we walked and walked and walked and walked through areas hat I doubt other tourists see until finally reached where we wanted to be. What should have taken 20 minutes has taken 70 minutes. WE finally decided on Chinese because it was with Peruvian style. For example, one dish we shared was alpaca which you would clearly not find at your local Chinese restaurant.
After dinner we went next door to a club that was filled with mostly locals. We suddenly felt underdressed. We stood in the back and watched everyone salsa-ing. Next we visited an English pub and watched some soccer there before finally heading back to the hotel for the night. More thumbnails ...
