The roughly 390 mile journey to Bridgeport began at 7:30 this morning. We encountered some traffic around the Los Angeles area of the interstate but once we were on Hwy 395 it was wide open.
The drive on Hwy 395 really becomes scenic around Ridgecrest, about 150 miles north of Anaheim.

We arrived at the campground around 3:30pm. With still plenty of daylight to walk down to Bridgeport Reservoir, about 100 yards from our campsite.
The air temperature was around 67 degrees but the water was surprisingly warm - obviously from springs that feed into the reservoir.

Later we took a drive down to Mono Lake which has these glacier looking objects in the water and along the shore. These objects are tufa towers - mineral structures created when fresh water springs push through the lakes alkaline waters.

It was a long day and a hard push getting through the Sierra's but the journey looks like it will be well worth it.
We will be here until Sunday.
