Since the girls are fascinated by trains we decided that we would visit the Grand Canyon the old fashioned way and take a vintage train tour. On Saturday morning we boarded the Grand Canyon Railway, but not before we watched an old western shootout show and then took pictures with the cowboys and their horses. During our tour we were kept entertained by musicians playing a mini harmonica, an accordion, and a banjo. The girls all found the unique instruments to be quite entertaining. There was also a cafe car on the train and when we asked Kinley what her favorite part of the train ride was she told us getting ice-cream. Pam joked about how if she had known that then she could have just taken her out to get dessert and saved a lot of money!
Visiting the Grand Canyon is a breathtaking experience that everyone should be privileged enough to see in their lifetime. The view was beautiful and there were restaurants, shops, and museums that backed right up to the rim. It was a little nerve-racking to have three fearless little children to keep hold of but all went well, there were no "incidents" and we managed to leave with a little sanity left. The train ride back was quite peaceful since the girls all slept the whole way. Sarah and Lily didn't even budge when the cowboys rode up to the moving train on horses, boarded the train, and then proceeded to "rob" the passengers for tips. It was a pretty cool experience for us all and something we will never forget.
