Post by Jason Ewing

Everyone knows my obsession with pine trees, and Ruidoso has kind of become a Ewing family tradition.  We visit Ruidoso 2-3 (or 4 or 5) times a year, it's almost a second home for us along with Grandma and Grandpa in El Paso.  I've tried to get Miranda to move here a billion times but ultimately what it comes down to is that the schools aren't that great, and we have to look out for the little ones.  However, the highlight of the trip so far was when Pam told Miranda "I'd visit you if you moved here 2-3 times a year" and Miranda momentary opened up to the idea!

Since Ruidoso has become such a natural part of our life, when planning our great adventure, we couldn't leave Ruidoso off the map!  We spent the weekend in Ruidoso with Grandma and Grandpa from El Paso, Pam Bros, my sister Erin and her boyfriend Patrick, and my cousin Bradley and his wife and family.  It's a mini family/friend reunion!

For being such a small town, there's a lot to do here for families with small children.  One of the girls favorite things to do in Ruidoso is ride the ponies at the Ruidoso Park, so naturally it was one of the first things that we did.  Grandma, Grandpa, Brady and Mandy joined us and Collin got to go on his First pony ride.  Sarah and Lily are now pro's at it and don't want mommy and daddy to help them, or as Lily say's, "I don't want you."  We still stay close of course just in case!  We also visited the park while we were in the area and I took the girls down to the river to enjoy natures beauty.  Lily and Sarah both tried to splash in the water, and touch it until they realized the water was < 40 degrees!

Another one of the family favorites is the Ruidoso Fun Track, a Put Put golf on steroids with the beautiful Sierra Blanca mountains in the background.  The best part is that they have not 1, not 2 but THREE go cart tracks, one of which Sarah and Kinley were able to ride all by themselves.  The middle tier track, where a parent can ride with a small child was closed, so Lily got to ride the play car and operate the crane instead.  I think that Daddy had more fun on that one though than Lily.

After we rode the go carts, we ended the day with a round of Miniature Golf.  I was really whipping up on the family until Karma came around and I got stuck with a 10 stroke attempt, and in the end Erin beat me by a couple of strokes.  Grandma ended up surprising us and getting a hole in one twice!

To wrap up the festivities, Miranda and the Girls went home to take a nap and I was able to sneak in lunch at my favorite restaurant in Ruidoso, can't anyone guess the food type?  That's right, BBQ - Can't stop Smoking.
